CHEF of the River Region, Inc.

Christian Homeschool Educator's Fellowship

C.H.E.F. of the River Region, Inc.

Policies

I.                    A CHEF member is defined as any family member with paid dues to CHEF of the River Region, Inc. This membership does not pertain to other peoples’ children who are being schooled by a CHEF member. (Please see CHEF of the River region By- Laws- Article VI-section 3.2)

II.                 Educating Other Children and CHEF

a.       Christian Home Educators Fellowship of the River Region, Inc. supports families who choose to operate according the home school statute as well as those who do so according to the alternate statute of operating as a private school.

b.       However, we do recommend that those who choose to operate as a private school keep in mind that they should still function as a home school (i.e. parents teaching their own children), and not as a literal private school (i.e. open to educate children other than their own, whether at a cost or for free).

c.       Those who would choose to operate as a literal private school should realize that their own home schooling family will be eligible to receive the support and benefits of CHEF, but any other children they are teaching will not. (Please see CHEF By-laws, Article VI, Sections 3.1 & 3.2)

d.       We do believe that a parent may allow another to teach their children some of the information they need to know, but that all education is ultimately the responsibility of the parents themselves. (See CHEF By-Laws, Article V, Section 2). When a parent turns over total control of their children’s education to another person, that child is no longer considered home-schooled.

III.               Field Trips*

a.       Are for CHEF members only. (See field trip addendum)

b.       Any other exceptions to the above must be approved by the Board of Directors.

c.       To attend a field trip, you must notify the field trip coordinator by the specified date. Also, if fees are required in advance, please pay on time if you wish to be included on the trip. Please do not feel free to attend without following this policy.

d.       All fees are non-refundable and non-transferable by the field trip coordinator; however, transfers that do not affect the arrangements of the number, ages or cost, may be made between individual members. The field trip coordinator must be notified by the morning of the trip.

e.       All official notification for field trips will be handled through the newsletter. It is your responsibility to keep track of all upcoming events and deadlines. If you have nay questions concerning the field trip, contact the field trip coordinator.

f.        After you respond to the field trip coordinator with your payment, you will receive further details such as: maps, directions, time schedules or whatever other information is available.

g.       We understand that extenuating circumstances do arise; however, the Board of Directors will decide each case on an individual basis. Please contact a member of the Board if a problem arises. (i.e. sickness, emergencies, etc.)

h.       God expects us to train our children to be obedient. It is each parent’s responsibility to ensure that their child(ren) will be  a godly example in their behavior. Leadership will call your attention to a matter if it is left unchecked.
